The 15th Sussex Shape Note singing was held in Staplefield Village Hall, using the Sacred Harp (1991 edition) and Alternative Harmony a booklet of other shape note tunes. The class was called to order by co-chairman Tony Singleton leading 63. Co-chairman Jill Thompson called the class to order leading 99. Leaders: Edwin Macadam ‘Nativity’ (Alt.H.); Sofi Mogensen 440; Nick Hall 538; Sheila Girling Macadam 330b.
The memorial and sick and housebound lessons were combined into a remembrance lesson conducted by Jill Thompson. Jill led 178 in memory of: Doug Cooper (Fleet), Reginald and Gladys Girling (Glasgow), John Fairley (Edinburgh), Louise’s Mum (Portugal), Ronald Lawton (Nuneaton), Vic Newman, Tristan Mirabaud, Alison Turner (all of Lewes), Jean Hickox (Bourne End). Tony Singleton led 86 for the following sick and housebound: Alice Wadsworth (Wareham), William Girling (Pickering, Ont., Canada), Joyce de Nevers (Dorking), Carol Gammon (Halland), Jean Finnegan and Johnny Barry (Ringmer), Dave Hill (Newick), Jan Green (Worthing), and Jan’s grand-daughter Ilana. The memorial was closed.

The Secretaries reported that 30 people had registered and 65 songs had been sung. Thanks were extended and announcements made. It was noted that the 2014 Sussex Shape Note singing would be held on Saturday, 8 March, 2014.  Jill Thompson and Tony Singleton led 347 as the closing song and the class was dismissed.
