The third Goodshaw Sacred Harp Day was held at Goodshaw Baptist Church, on Saturday before the second Sunday in May.

Ted Brown began the day by leading 33b. Harry Sidebottom welcomed singers back to the church and said an opening prayer. Helen Brown called the class back with 171. Michael Walker conducted the memorial lesson and read the names of the deceased: Gordon Corrick (Hull), Joe Reynolds (Denmead), Lonnie Rogers (GA), Marie Ivey (AL), Dr Julietta Haynes (TN), Peter Schoojens (Sweden), Philip Higgins (Oldham), Maureen Gamlin (Derby) and Beryl Head (Bolton). He also spoke for the sick and housebound: Brenda Grimshaw, Tony Parkinson, Pauline McPartland, Chris Brown, Charlotte Walker, Benny Ross and Lynn James. For them he led 435 and said a prayer. Leaders: Hannah Land 399t; Helen Brown 392; Ted Brown 77t; Ewan Paterson 159; Margaret Gillanders 472; Nadine Wills 156; Judy Whiting 354t.

RECESS

Judy Whiting and Ted Brown led 323t. John Hopkinson offered a closing prayer and the class was dismissed.

After the close a group of singers visited the Goodshaw Baptist Old Chapel and sang, sitting in the square singers’ pew.
